Common Name: Poor Man's Orchid
Schizanthus is the most exotic of all annual bedding plants. Each bloom looks like a miniature orchid. Each bloom looks like a miniature orchid, streaked and spotted in a variety of colors. The flowers are borne in large numbers above pale green ferny foliage. Schizanthus thrives in fertile, well-drained but moist soil in full sun. Afternoon shade is advisable in very warm climates. This delicate, fragile-stemmed annual is best in a sheltered cool border or container.
