Alcea
Common Name: Hollyhock
Alcea are tall and slender biennials or short-lived perennials. Large, saucer shaped brightly colored flowers bloom along the spikes in summer. Flowers are often double in cultivars. Alcea prefer moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun.
They attract bees and butterflies
Plant Care: Deadheading wilted hollyhock flowers will encourage re blooming and should be done until the end of the season unless self-sown seedlings are desired. Many hollyhocks rarely require staking except in high-wind or very rainy areas.
